CFMEU crackdown stymied by court challenge, as gangs evolve: report

A High Court challenge has deterred the administration of the CFMEU from fully executing its plans to deal with corruption in the construction industry, amid rising concern that organised crime and bikies have evolved in response to the crackdown.

CFMEU administrator Mark Irving, KC, said in a six-month report tabled in parliament on Tuesday that he had been forced to put on hold some reforms due to uncertainty created by ousted officials’ challenge in the High Court to Labor’s administration. The court is yet to deliver its ruling.
