Property buyers are paying a premium to avoid renovations amid concerns that budget-busting blow-outs involved in fixer-uppers are not worth the time and effort compared to a house that is ready to occupy.

Property consultancy Herron Todd White (HTW) says the high cost of building materials and delays finding skilled tradies are behind a slump in demand for houses or apartments that require significant additional work.
