The great innovation challenge for the Australian Defence Force is an ability to create strategic surprise and at the same time prevent strategic surprise in our region, says the Defence Science Technology Group's (DST) chief defence scientist Dr Alex Zelinsky.

To do this, we need to create game-changing technologies such as hypersonic aerodynamics, or by better developing our autonomous capabilities.
