Public servant pay rises push wage growth to 14-year high

Large pay rises for public servants drove annual wage growth to its fastest pace in 14 years in December, after state premiers abandoned salary caps following pressure from unions and essential workers.

The annual growth in public sector pay packets accelerated to 4.3 per cent in December from 3.5 per cent in September, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday.
