Tax cut ‘surprise’ could pump $10b back into economy

Australians could pump close to half of the $23 billion stage three tax cuts back into the economy, according to Westpac research that raises doubts about official projections the extra cash will be almost entirely stashed away.

Westpac senior economist Matthew Hassan said public awareness of the stage three tax cuts was surprisingly low, based on his analysis of the most recent Westpac-Melbourne Institute consumer sentiment survey.
