Swifties boost February retail spending amid sector struggles

The Taylor Swift effect offset flat retail trade in February, with the global megastar’s seven sold-out concerts in Melbourne and Sydney bolstering spending on clothing, merchandise, accessories and dining out.

Retail spending rose 0.3 per cent over the month, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics retail data out on Thursday, while underlying growth, which strips out effects of the Eras Tour, was almost stagnant.
