In June, Elon Musk fired off memos to his staff at electric carmaker Tesla and rocket company SpaceX, demanding they return to the office. They would be required to “spend a minimum of 40 hours in the office per week”. Those who did not would be fired.

The letters reignited the sometimes-heated, post-pandemic debate over the pros and cons of working in an office versus working from home.
