A dwindling sex life is one of the most common midlife complaints: I hear women saying they don’t want it and men not understanding why, often taking it personally.

About 30 per cent of women stop having sex (or have sex much less often) during perimenopause and menopause. And a 2019 study of more than 24,000 postmenopausal women (aged on average 64) found that only 22 per cent were sexually active.
