When The Australian Financial Review hosted its inaugural Banking Summit in April 2015, all eyes were on David Murray’s financial system inquiry, which had sensationally called for the big banks to hold higher capital buffers.

The former Commonwealth Bank boss had laid out his case for Australia to lead the world fortifying banks from risks exposed by the global financial crisis.
