Some places just have it and Leura Garage has it in spades. Or should that be truck-loads? This former garage (indeed) is arguably the coolest diner in the mountains, with its semi-industrial shtick (check out the boy's-own tools embedded in the polished concrete floor), hydraulic-hoist wine rack and waiters in fashionable mechanics' garb. Casual rules, from the laidback attitude of the staff to the super-relaxed Mediterranean tapas menu by kitchen meister Misha Laurent. Soft house-made gnocchi holds its own in a napolitana sauce sprinkled with feisty pancetta and fetta, while the yum factor in a generous serve of chicken souvlaki is amplified by its accompanying eggplant caviar, garlic yoghurt, sumac pickled onions and homemade dukkah bread. A salad of smoked trout, quinoa and pickled quail eggs is all very fine, but it's a dark creme caramel taken to the point of no return that is a complete triumph. Happiness reigns. Vroom vroom.
