THESE sweet doughy sticks of goodness from the Iberian regions of Spain and Portugal are traditionally a street food or breakfast treat, but you can enjoy them any time of the day from these five local vendors.

Whisk & Co, 102 Augusta Rd Lenah Valley

Putting their own twist on the Spanish delicacy, this Lenah Valley eatery’s special offering is doughnut fries. Described as “churros on the skinny side”, they come served with a choice of a Nutella and brownie crumb, or salted caramel and Anzac biscuit crumb ($12).

Churros Cafe, 54-56 Gormanston Rd, Moonah

Run by the former owner of the old Sisco’s Spanish and seafood restaurant, Churros Cafe will let you take a break from the hustle and bustle of the Island Markets. Grab a serve sprinkled with sugar ($4.50) or with a side of dipping chocolate ($5.50).

San Churro, 5/6 Salamanca Sq, Battery Point

With crispy churros made to order with a plethora of sides and extras, plus gluten-friendly offerings, regular specials and now on the Uber Eats list, you are spoiled for choice at San Churro. Snack packs, filled churros and the classic side of dipping sauce or fruit are sure to tempt. Prices start from $4.95 for the Kids Churros, and $9.95 for a single serve.

Pancho Villa, corner of Elizabeth and Pitt streets, North Hobart

This Mexican restaurant and tequila bar comes complete with a red velvet rope entrance, simple yet thematic decor and rear courtyard. For dessert try the churro dulce de leche: an ice cream sandwich with candied pecans & chocolate ganache for $15.

Yambu, 129 Elizabeth St, Hobart

The new kid on the block is this cosy restaurant filled with character and tasty share plates. Opening in September last year, owner Elias and his staff have been working to bring South America to Hobart. Their churros use a classic no-nonsense recipe and served with house-made ice cream.
