American$

American-inspired diner, the owner sharing bench space with his eldest daughter to get through the lunchtime rush. They’re filling baskets with spicy maple-glazed fried chicken and stacking cheeseburgers on squishy buns, both staples on the all-day menu.

Mornings are about fat stacks of buttermilk pancakes and breakfast sandwiches of omelette, sausage patty and cheese on English muffins. The lengthy list of things between bread also includes pastrami sandwiches on rye, with beef that’s smoked and cured especially by Flora Hill Quality Meats. It’s part of a commitment to using local makers that includes Love Shack beers from Castlemaine and Minim fiano from Heathcote.

Pair them with deep-fried mozzarella sticks after work. Or just nab a comfy booth, get into the bottomless drip coffee and have your Twin Peaks moment.
