Pop quiz, wise guys. What's better than Japanese/Danish food for breakfast? Japanese/Danish food AT NIGHT. Yep, Edition, the Liverpool Street cafe that stole our hearts, has had a bit of a refit, got itself a licence and is now serving dinner alongside big Japanese beers on tap and a neat-but-exciting sake list from the peeps over at Black Market Sake.

Fun fact, trivia seekers: the Japanese word for that amazing feeling in the back of your throat when you drink a cold fizzing drink in Japanese is "nodogoshi". Impress your friends! Bust it out in front of Japanese strangers! (Actually, don't. About 50 websites credit this as one of the most unexplainable Japanese language phenomenons. I don't want to get the blame for embarrassing half of Tokyo with my horrible, half-baked translations).

So the menu is essentially designed izakaya-style – stuff that props you up while you're drinking and gives you some much needed ballast after all those beers.

Chef Jack New has also now finally answered that age-old question that has plagued at least one person: is it a taco, or is it sushi? Here, it's both, and it's DIY, where you'll scoop up raw fish, pickles and sushi rice sweetened with a little mayonnaise in sheets of nori. View it as a very lazy hand roll or the world's most interactive taco.

Check out that squashy curry katsu burger, too. It's basically what equates to a thick-cut pork schnitzel, only crumbed in crushed up Cornflakes, fried until crunchy and freshened up with gingery red cabbage coleslaw, Kewpie mayo and bacon-infused Japanese curry sauce. All on a sesame-seed bun.

Skagen tora sort of translates to something like potted prawns on a little round of very dark, bitter ryebread, garnished with dill and lemon thyme (think of them as miniature smorrebrod).

The eggplant jaffle is the one to bet on for vegos and face-eaters alike. Ultra-thick, ultra-soft white bread sandwiches slippery, silky eggplant, all bound together with three types of cheese, pressed until golden and just very slightly crisp on the outside.

Add a side of lotus chips for the crunch factor, or maybe just a bowl of spicy edamame – the classic Japanese soybean snacks just waiting on the sidelines for a cold beer to join them.

Edition Nights are still relatively quiet – take advantage of the lull and haul in for some rare and exciting Danishese refreshment.

Bottom line: Curry katsu burger ($20); eggplant jaffle ($12); skagen tora ($14).
