Fabulous Fine Food is indeed fab, and owners Ross Parker and Anthony Green have created a welcoming, chic little space with a loyal local following. Fresh white walls offset dark bentwood chairs, and a square of carpet in the centre of the room works hard to soften the acoustics, especially at weekends when FFF is jumping. Service is warm and genuine, nailing the art of making customers feel looked-after but not smothered. Families comprise the early shift, when a nugget-free kids' menu is offered from 5.30pm to 6.45pm - things like grilled fish or house-made rissoles. Superb entrees may include steamed seafood gyoza in a soy broth, or crumbly spinach, cashew and goat's cheese 'cake' on a delicate saffron creme fraiche. Solid mains could be house-made potato gnocchi with a lamb ragu, or skinless salmon with a miso glaze on an Asian slaw with roasted peanuts. The hefty shortbread parfait sandwich deserves special mention, with manuka honey icecream and lavender sherbet - it's too good not to finish.
