THIS is it! Our Number 1. Who is the most powerful person in the Northern Territory? Our choice may surprise you.

Today, we finally count down from Numbers 5 to 1 in our 120 Most Powerful list.

These are the five people we believe have the most power to shape the future of the Northern Territory and we believe we have compelling reasons to list them where we have.

Just click on each picture in our interactive graphic below to find out a bit more about our list makers today and why we’ve placed them in this order.

What do you think of our choices today?

Tracey Hayes may surprise some as our choice for Number 1. But there is no doubt she is one of Australia’s most influential people right now.

She is among a very exclusive group of people who can open doors with governments of all colours, in both the Northern Territory and in Canberra.

As Chief Executive of the NT Cattlemen’s Association, she’s leading the charge on a class action after the Gillard Government’s live export ban and she is often spoken about as a future Senator for the NT.

Hayes just tips out new Chief Minister Michael Gunner at Number 2.

No Chief Minister has ever ranked at Number 1 on our Most Powerful list and Gunner goes very close this year.

But he’s got time on his side, is popular and voters think he’s a good bloke — the antithesis of his predecessor, Adam Giles — and that means he can use that popularity to actually achieve things.

We can only wait and see where he ends up on The List next year — that is, if he even makes it, of course.

The list always gets the Territory talking. So make sure you know who’s in and who’s out of the NT’s circle of influence.

Just remember, if you haven’t been following our list, you won’t be able to gossip about it with everyone else.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our list. Until next year ...
