The Campbelltown and Macarthur precincts are set to be the commercial hub of the dramatic transformation of Sydney’s southwest, an area set to welcome an incredible 58,000 homes and 40,000 jobs across the next two decades.
A health and education precinct is earmarked to headline the city’s expansion, with a growing list of projects including Campbelltown Hospital’s $632 million expansion and plans for a Western Sydney University CBD-campus currently in motion.
The Greater Macarthur 2040 Interim Plan also highlights the potential for a campus-style office park on the Blaxland Rd side of Campbelltown train station.
It comes as Planning Minister Rob Stokes recently formally declared Greater Macarthur as a growth area.

In the precincts of Macarthur and Campbelltown alone, more than 8000 new homes are earmarked for the next 20 years.
“Macarthur will complement Campbelltown with world-class health facilities, integrated educational institutions, more diverse housing, a premier retail precinct and attractive public spaces,” the plan stated.
“Campbelltown will offer higher-order civic, cultural, employment, residential and retail opportunities.”
Major high-rise developments in the works include a 24-storey overhaul of Campbelltown RSL, a 14-storey apartment complex on Courdeax St, a six-tower proposal at the Brands on Sale site, 12-storey unit complex on the CBC Bank building site, a 15-storey building next to Dumaresq St Cinema and early plans for a campus-style development on Kellicar Rd.
Campbelltown Mayor George Brticevic told the Chronicle recently his vision was to create a sustainable city.
“We want to build Australia’s greenest and most sustainable city, a place that is attractive for young professionals, that fosters innovation and encourages industry collaboration,” he said. “The good news is that we have the structures in place to make it a reality.”
The Greater Macarthur Plan also reveals intentions to transform Campbelltown Sports Stadium into a sports and recreation epicentre for Sydney’s southwest, with the Leumeah precinct to potentially welcome 1000 new homes.
