NEW plans have been lodged for a proposed high-rise apartment complex next to Campbelltown’s historic St Peter’s Anglican Church and school.
A 14-storey tower, on the site of the former community health centre, is set back from the street and linked with a six-storey tower in front of it.
Plans are currently on public exhibition before the NSW Land and Environment Court makes a decision on the project.
The $28 million development will incorporate 94 apartments and 16 retail spaces, a reduction from the initial plans lodged with Campbelltown Council in 2017.
Documents show a number of amendments from the developer’s original plan, after council raised concerns around the proximity of the development to St Peter’s rectory.
“The amended proposal has a significant increase in the setback from Cordeaux St to allow additional view lines to the south facing elevation of the rectory building which also allows for the retention of significant trees,” the documents state.

“The tower closest to Cordeaux St (Tower A) has been reduced in height to six storeys to address the relationship with the rectory and the series of heritage buildings along Cordeaux St.
Campbelltown and Airds Historical Society president Kay Hayes said she was concerned by the proposed tower’s proximity to heritage buildings.
“It could overshadow the heritage buildings … there are other areas around Campbelltown we could put these.”
