LAND next to Campbelltown railway station is set to become a hub of commercial activity, with plans for what is believed to be a business park on the site.

Details around the plans remain confidential but Campbelltown Council confirmed to the Macarthur Chronicle it was in negotiations with a major business to establish a commercial development on the Farrow Rd site.

The State Government announced plans for residential and business precincts along the rail line between Glenfield and Macarthur stations in December last year, and the council-owned land between Blaxland Rd and Campbelltown station was identified in the plans for use as a business park.

Campbelltown Council director of city governance Phu Nguyen said the council hoped to make an announcement soon on the future of the site.

“In 2017 council sought expressions of interest for the site on Farrow Rd, calling for interest from the market for its commercial use,” Mr Nguyen said.

“Following the EOI process, council commenced negotiations with a major operator to establish a long-term presence on the site and, at this stage, progress remains positive.

“Council is currently bound by a confidentiality agreement which prevents any public announcements at this stage.

“Investment in Campbelltown is a great story for our community, so we look forward to being able to share details in the near future.”

When asked about work currently being undertaken on the site, Mr Nguyen said council was completing infrastructure work to enhance drainage.

“The works being undertaken are also part of council’s commitment to ensuring this key site in our property portfolio is attractive for investment and development, and can generate a financial and social return for the city,” he said.

In the NSW Government’s precinct plan released last November, the site is described as being able to “accommodate a large floorplate, campus style office park to facilitate business clustering”.

The potential development would complement a new business park already approved for the Maryfield precinct on Narellan Rd across from Campbelltown TAFE.

It will bring 1200 new jobs to the region alongside a seniors living precinct, aged care facility and more than 400 homes at the back of Blair Athol.

The business park will largely focus on health and innovation services.
