CAMPBELLTOWN’S place as the health and medical capital of southwest Sydney is set to be secured after land on Narellan Rd was rezoned to enable a new business park to be built.

The Maryfields precinct, current home of the Franciscans and Poor Clare nuns, was rezoned by the NSW Government in July to enable the long-awaited Nexus Business Park development to go ahead.

The development will bring 1200 new jobs to the region.

The project will bring 1200 new jobs to the region alongside a seniors living precinct, aged care facility and more than 400 homes at the back of Blair Athol.

The business park will largely focus on health and innovation services.

The Franciscans will retain a portion of land in the precinct.

The business park has a height limit of four storeys while the residential development will have the same development controls as neighbouring Blair Athol.

Traffic access to the business park and aged care precinct will be via Narellan Rd while the residential area will go through Blair Athol.

Maryfields Estate development director Wayne Camenzuli said the proposed business park was an exciting development for Campbelltown and the greater Macarthur region.

“As far as I’m aware there’s not another area in Campbelltown, Camden or Wollondilly shire zoned for this type of development,” Mr Camenzuli said.

“It’s close to the public and private hospitals in Campbelltown so we’ll have services such as allied health be based there to create an industry cluster.

“The timing of this could not be better given the explosive population growth in southwest Sydney.”

Mr Camenzuli said the development could be the catalyst for further employment-generating developments in the nearby vicinity, potentially creating a precinct similar to the Norwest Business Park.

The Business Park will complement new housing and a seniors living precinct.

“The reason we chose the name Nexus is because it means connectivity,” Mr Camenzuli said.

“The intent is that in time Maryfields will stimulate further developments.

“Campbelltown Council has land at Blaxland Rd and there is land at TAFE and Western Sydney University — if they choose to develop that.”
