CAMPBELLTOWN’S CBD is set to soar, with a 15-storey building planned on the site next to the Dumaresq St Cinema.
A development application for the high rise has been placed on public exhibition with Campbelltown Council.
The building was initially designed to be 20 storeys when it was first proposed early last year, but after discussions with Campbelltown Council the developer has reduced the height to 15.
The building will contain 85 residential apartments across 12 storeys as well as two levels of commercial office space and a retail floor on the ground level.
Four levels of underground parking will provide 130 parking spaces and 20 bicycles spaces.
Planner Michael Brown, of Michael Brown Planning Strategies, said the building size was reduced to fit in with council planning controls.
“Campbelltown Council was concerned about the height and the original proposal had above ground parking,” Mr Brown said.
“We’re now only a metre over the height limit and the parking now is all underground.
“Of the 85 residential apartments, 23 are what we call adaptable, which would suit people with disabilities.”
Vehicle access to the building will be via Coogan Lane.
Because of the size of the proposal it will not be determined by council, instead by the Sydney South West Planning Panel.
In February last year, Campbelltown Mayor George Brticevic said similar proposals would help revive Campbelltown’s CBD and stated his preference for the building to be no bigger than 15 storeys.
