He was the million-dollar male model branded Australia’s next big thing, however it appears Jordan Barrett’s star is starting to wane, insiders reveal.
He was the million-dollar male model branded Australia’s next big thing, however it appears Jordan Barrett’s star is starting to wane.
A year ago, the genetically blessed 22-year-old was shooting for lucrative brands including Versace, Balmain, Moschino and Tom Ford and gracing the covers of Vogue magazines around the globe. Represented by top agency IMG he secured $100,000 for just one minute’s work at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.
These days however, Barrett — who is now represented by Kult Australia — is best known for his questionable behaviour, with fashion industry insiders branding his time in the limelight all but over.

According to many in the industry, Barrett, who was in Sydney this week for the GQ Man Of The Year Awards, was thrust into the spotlight three decades late and would have been better suited to the Kate Moss, heroin chic, party-loving era.
“His heyday is well and truly over,” one insider said.
“Jordan is a nice kid and means well but you are paid to represent brands.
“When he first started out, he was this fresh, baby-faced kid, lauded for his laid-back Byron Bay vibe.
“These days he is considered a dishevelled and loose party boy. This catches up with you. The modelling world right now is about health, fitness and wellbeing.”
While editor-in-chief of Vogue Australia, Edwina McCann, wouldn’t comment directly on Barrett and his imploding career, she said today’s male models need to be reliable, portray a clean-cut image and be smart with their earnings.
“The modelling industry is one of the more peculiar industries where women outearn men,” McCann told Sunday Confidential.
“The thing is, a male model tends to earn less throughout their career and even have a shorter lifespan.
“It is essential they manage their career accordingly and responsibly.”
One top agent, who did not wish to be named, said Barrett needs to get some advice from fellow models Jordan and Zac Stenmark. The handsome twins have forged successful careers thanks to their scandal-free, boys-next-door image.
“The modelling industry doesn’t turn a blind eye to bad behaviour anymore,” the agent said.
“Look at the downfall of the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes and Paris Hilton. The entire industry is being held accountable for bad behaviour, which is a good thing.
“Jordan is a young kid who has received fame and money at a young age and just like we have seen it happen to many of our sports stars, if you aren’t managed properly, you can go downhill rapidly.”
