Central Qld thugs in court for violence against women

Shocking cases of violence against women have been exposed this year - here’s the faces of Central Queensland thugs who dished out the unthinkable.

In many cases they leave their victims not only injured on the outside, but also scarred on the inside.

Here are the faces of 15 Central Queensland men who inflicted terrible violence against women and faced courts this year to get their punishments.

Paul Andrew Hill, 33

A woman struggled to breathe as she was dragged down the hallway of her home by Hill who had violently assaulted her while on methamphetamine and accused her of cheating on him.

Hill called the woman into the bedroom and made a comment about how he had told her not to do something and then punched her in the face, which caused her to fall over.

He then punched her body five or six more times.

The woman ran to the front window of the home and called out for someone to call the police for help.

Hill grabbed the woman’s head and hit it against the window.

The woman fell to the floor and Hill stood on her neck for a couple of seconds.

He then grabbed the woman by the throat and pulled her down the hallway.

Hill pleaded guilty in Rockhampton District Court to one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, choking and dealing with prohibited substances.

He was sentenced to 3.5 years’ prison, with a parole eligibility date set and 383 days of pre-sentence custody declared as time already served.

Leslie William George Spencer, 36

Spencer attacked his partner of 16 years at their North Rockhampton home after accusing her of cheating on him.

Spencer’s partner denied these claims and the pair wrestled before he punched her twice to the back of the head.

The woman later noticed a bruise to her left upper arm and lower right forearm and had trouble walking for several days after the assault and experienced pain.

Spencer pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, possessing dangerous drugs and wilful damage.

He was sentenced to six months’ jail with immediate parole and convictions were recorded.

Jason Anthony Young, 48

Young punched his “on again, off again” partner of 10 years in the face about 10 times at Westwood before shoving her up against a wall and repeatedly pushing his thumbs into her eyeballs (gouging), followed by more punches.

Young pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to assault occasioning bodily harm and was sentenced to 18 months’ jail with immediate parole eligibility.

Scott Glenn Arthur Robinson, 38

Robinson pushed his partner with his forehead so hard she was slammed into a wall and it cracked.

He then grabbed her by the throat, pushed her against the wall and squeezed the side of her neck.

Robinson pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to assault occasioning bodily harm, common assault and wilful damage and was sentenced to two years’ jail with immediate parole, and 186 days pre-sentence custody was declared as time already served.

David Marshall John Richards, 28

Richards assaulted a woman, striking her in the head with a can, and accused her of sleeping with someone else.

He was drinking alcohol in the garage at his home in Berserker when he started yelling at the woman, calling her a “dog” and throwing an empty glass beer bottle at her head, which narrowly missed her.

Richards continued to yell at the woman and she said she would call the police.

Richards pushed the woman in the chest and as she turned around he struck her in the head with a can, which caused her some pain and bruising the next morning.

Richards pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to assault occasioning bodily harm and he was sentenced to 12 months’ jail with a parole release date set, and a suspended sentence was extended.

Darren Eric Savage, 45

Savage spat in his partner’s face at Allenstown and pushed her up against a wall, holding her by her throat with both hands for 10-15 seconds.

The woman struggled to breathe and the next day, police noticed bruising and red marks on her neck.

Savage pleaded guilty to charges including strangulation (domestic violence offence) and he was sentenced to three years’ jail, cumulative on a previous sentence and given a parole eligibility date.

Neville William Junior Aspinall, 31

Aspinall punched the mother of his child in the mouth, causing a laceration to her lip, following allegations of infidelity.

The female victim had attended Aspinall’s house to return some of his property where they had a conversation about Aspinall’s alleged infidelity and “without warning” he punched her in the mouth.

The victim suffered a 2-3 cm laceration to the bottom lip, which required stitches.

Aspinall also assaulted the victim on another occasion when she wanted a lift - he asked for a kiss, she declined, and he grabbed her by the face and pulled her towards him and caused her nose to bleed.

Aspinall pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to numerous charges including assault occasioning bodily harm and common assault.

He was sentenced to 18 months’ jail with a parole release date set, and he was also fined $100 with convictions recorded.

Kywin Glen John Mitchell, 29

As his terrified partner drove, Kywin Glen John Mitchell climbed from the front passenger seat and began strangling her before later wrapping a seatbelt around her neck.

This was just four days after he’d warned if he “could not have her, no-one else could”.

The Rockhampton District Court heard it was “chilling to think” how the victim must have felt while being strangled so soon after she was told by Mitchell that he’d “kill her”.

In a series of protracted violent incidents, Mitchell repeatedly accused his partner of infidelity, threw her up against furniture and walls, punched her in the chest and face and squeezed her throat.

Mitchell pleaded guilty to two counts of choking/strangulation (domestic violence), three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence), and three counts of common assault.

He was sentenced to three years’ jail and given a parole eligibility date.

Robert Lionel Landers, 30

Landers punched a 15-year-old girl while he was drinking at a house in Gracemere.

Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard that Landers’ criminal record showed he had a “propensity” for violence including three assault occasioning bodily harm convictions.

He pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and was sentenced to 10 months’ jail, cumulative on a previous 12-month prison term, and granted immediate parole eligibility.

Tyler Anthony Corbin, 19

Corbin found himself behind bars after he assaulted his ex-partner and her mother.

Corbin punched them both in the face and damaged the house by punching holes in doors and walls.

Corbin’s attack on his ex-partner caused her to fall backwards over a couch and lose consciousness.

The punch caused bruising and swelling to the left side of her face and left her experiencing pain in her face and the top of her head.

She was transported to Moura Hospital, however, due to the severity of her injuries, was then taken to Rockhampton Hospital.

Corbin’s attack on his ex-partner’s mother caused pain, cuts, bruising and swelling to her face.

Corbin pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to numerous charges including two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence), and one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence).

He was sentenced to 12 months’ jail with a parole release date set, and 64 days pre-sentence custody declared as time served.

Adam Anthony Bayley, 31

Biloela man Bayley callously choked and suffocated his pregnant partner, telling her to get an abortion during an argument about her infidelity.

His victim and partner of nine years was 10 weeks pregnant with their third child when the offences occurred, Rockhampton District Court heard.

It was told that during an argument, Bayley told the woman “I want to cave your skull in” and he then choked her.

Bayley pleaded guilty to one count each of choking and suffocation, and he was sentenced to three years’ jail with 193 days pre-sentence custody declared as time served, and a parole release date set.

Dillon, a jockey, committed “barbaric” acts of violence against a partner including biting her cheek, smashing her head against hard objects and choking her.

He was prohibited from going to his partner’s residence or contacting her when he decided they needed to go for a drive during which he verbally abused and assaulted her.

Dillion pleaded guilty in Rockhampton District Court to charges including one count of choking (domestic violence offence) and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offences).

Judge Jeff Clarke described Dillon’s behaviour as “acts of barbarism” which were protracted, persistent and included victim blaming and were borne out of jealousy, and a need to control and coerce his victim.

Dillon was sentenced to 3.5 years’ jail with immediate parole eligibility, with 344 days pre-sentence custody declared as time already served.

Joshua Stanley Mack, 28

Mack was armed with a sledgehammer when he threatened to “bash” the unborn baby from his former partner’s womb because it wasn’t his.

He also carried out what was described as “irrational, sustained violence” which involved stabbing the victim in the shin and holding her hostage for days.

Mack pleaded guilty in Rockhampton District Court to assault occasioning bodily harm, deprivation of liberty, wilful damage and four counts of common assault.

He was sentenced to three years’ jail with a parole release date set.

Mark Paul Boulton, 50

Mark Paul Boulton, 50, pleaded guilty on January 31 in Rockhampton District Court to one count of choking and one of breaching a domestic violence order.

Central Queensland mine worker Boulton inflicted a harrowing attack on his wife - at one point placing his knees on her neck and rib cage, and squeezing her throat despite her begging him for mercy.

Boulton put his hands around her neck while she was pinned against an external wall, and squeezed for about 30 seconds so that she could barely breathe.

Boulton pleaded guilty in Rockhampton District Court to charges including choking and he was sentenced to three years’ jail with immediate parole release, and 429 days pre-sentence custody was declared as time already served.

Terry Andrew Moss, 42

Terry Andrew Moss, 42, pleaded guilty on January 27 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm, one of wilful damage and one of breaching a domestic violence order.

Moss punched his partner in the back of the head and then her right eye at Emerald.

He pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to charges including assault occasioning bodily harm.

Moss was sentenced to six months’ jail and given immediate parole eligibility.
