Emerald’s Terry Andrew Moss jailed again for assaulting a partner
A violent offender was on parole for assaulting a person with a weapon has reoffended by punching his partner in the back of the head.

A serial offender is back before the courts for punching his partner while on parole for a violent assault while armed with a weapon and in the company of others.
Terry Andrew Moss, 42, pleaded guilty on January 27 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm, one of wilful damage and one of breaching a domestic violence order.
Police prosecutor Sergeant David Longhurst said Moss punched his then partner in the back of the head and then her right eye, and threw an object at her, striking her in the lower back.
Moss also damaged crockery and a walking stick.
The offending took place on August 2, 2022, in Emerald.
“(Moss) has the propensity to inflict violence upon persons of the community and persons with whom there exists a domestic relationship,” Sergeant Longhurst said.
He said Moss’ seven-page criminal record containing violence started in 1999 for a robbery with violence, and an assault occasioning bodily harm in 2005 in Cooktown and an unlawful wounding in Cairns in 2012.
Moss was convicted of a common assault, an assault occasioning bodily harm and two counts of wilful damage in January 2022 where he received an 18-month prison term.
He was also on a suspended sentence handed down in July 2022 for similar offending.
Defence lawyer Lachlan Robertson said his client was now single and had previously worked in the agriculture sector.
He said Moss had been diagnosed with schizophrenia about 10 years ago and was medicated daily.
Mr Robertson said there was a mental health plan ready to be actioned upon Moss’ release from prison.
Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale sentenced Moss to six months prison and ordered it to be served cumulative on his January 2022 sentence.
She also activated his suspended sentence from July 2022 and ordered it run concurrently to the six-month term.
Ms Beckinsale ordered Moss be eligible for parole immediately.
