There is no doubt the Bundaberg region is booming and it could get a whole lot bigger if a number of pending developments get the green light from Bundaberg Regional Council.
From new service stations to childcare centres, we took a deep dive into some of the developments around the region that will hopefully come to fruition in 2022.
New shopping centre
More shops could be on the cards at Kensington, with a fresh development application lodged with the council for a material change of use for a new shopping centre on Faircloth Crescent.
The site will be close to other stores in the area such as the Coles shopping complex on Takalvan St, the Brothers’ Club and a number of stores and businesses along Johanna Boulevard.
According to the proposal, the complex would have five tenancy spaces and 129 car parking spaces, with three designated for disability access.
New neighbourhood centre
Kalkie residents could have a number of services closer to home if a development application for a material change of use application is approved.
The application was lodged in late November, and proposes a new neighbourhood centre on an empty block of land on Bargara Rd, right next to Kalkie State School.
The development would include a service station, food and drink outlet and health care service.
Day hospital
A local medical facility could see its services to the community expand if a development application gets the green light.
A material change of use application for the Wide Bay Centre for Digestive Diseases site on Takalvan St was lodged with Bundaberg Regional Council in November.
If approved, the facility would become a day hospital offering more than just the treatment of digestive diseases.
New Childers Holiday Park
Childers will be able to accommodate more visitors if a proposed tourist park gets the green light from Bundaberg Regional Council.
A development application submitted on behalf on AA Plus Group is proposing the site be constructed on the Bruce Highway just a kilometre from the Childers town centre.
If approved, the development will deliver 84 caravan sites ranging from 100sq m to 150sq m and 42 cabins, associated amenities and infrastructure.
YMCA expansion
A Bundaberg services facility will undergo a major redevelopment if an application to do so is approved.
The material change of use application was lodged on behalf of YMCA.
The application involves the redevelopment of the current YMCA site at Kepnock to allow the future development of a vocational learning facility targeting disengaged students with various learning needs.
Service station and shopping centre on Rifle Range Road
A new service station, shopping centre and showroom could be on the cards for Bargara.
A material change of use application was lodged with the Bundaberg Regional Council for 60 Rifle Range Rd for applicant Bargara Village.
The development would take place in four stages; the first including the service station and cafe/restaurant.
The shopping centre would be comprised predominantly of retail shops, with cafes, restaurants, offices and a limited line supermarket.
Belle Eden Estate childcare centre
A Bundaberg housing estate could soon be home to a new child care facility if a development application gets the green light.
A material change of use application was lodged for a new early childhood education and child care centre to be built at Belle Eden Estate.
The facility would be built at the entry of the estate on the corner of Sienna Boulevard and the Bundaberg Ring Road.
The centre would be able to care for 150 children and employ 26 staff.
Boundary Street childcare
A new child care centre could be built just minutes from the Bundaberg CBD.
A material change of use application for a child care centre on Boundary St was recently lodged with Bundaberg Regional Council.
If approved the centre would be able to care for 90 children between not even one, to five years old.
The new facility would include five different classrooms, with adjoining sleep rooms for the areas proposed for children aged between zero and three years old.
