More shops could be on the cards for a local Bundy suburb, with a fresh development application being lodged with council.
A material change of use application was lodged with Bundaberg Regional Council this week for a new shopping centre to be built on Faircloth Crescent at Kensington.
The site will be close to other stores in the area such as the Coles shopping complex on Takalvan St, the Brothers’ Club and a number of stores and businesses along Johanna Boulevard.
According to the proposal document, the complex would have five tenancy spaces and 129 carparking spaces, with three designated for disability access.
It would also contribute to the continued economic growth of the Bundaberg region and create new jobs.
The shopping centre would be a stand-alone development, but an access connection has been provided in designs to allow for integration, permeability and connectivity with the adjoining Coles shopping centre.
The block of land the proposed complex is set to be built on currently has a small club house structure which was formerly associated with sporting uses at the Brother’s Club.
“The proposed development is a natural consequence of the established character of the precinct, the zoning of the land and is a logical development of the site,” the proposal document says.
“The layout provides for a future connection with the Coles complex to the west, this would further support the function and scale of the major centre as being a subregional hub by integrating the two facilities if required.”
The proposed shopping centre application comes after it was announced a new bus facility would be built across the road at Sugarland Plaza, which would also include new traffic lights at the centre’s Takalvan St entrance.
