Childers could soon see tourism numbers increase if a proposed tourist park gets the green light from Bundaberg Regional Council.
A development application submitted on behalf on AA Plus Group is proposing the site to be constructed on the Bruce Highway just a kilometre from the Childers town centre.
If approved, the proposed development will deliver a total of 84 caravan sites ranging from 100sq m to 150sq m and 42 cabins, associated amenities and infrastructure.
“The area in which the site is located is characterised by a transition between agricultural farm land and beginning of the more densely populated parts of the Childers township,” the application says.
“The site is well located in its proximity to commercial services such as the Woolworths shopping centre and service station and is within 1km of the town centre, which may be considered an acceptable walking distance.
“The site’s location adjoining the Bruce Highway allows for the site to provide convenient and direct access to major transport routes, making it a favourable stopping location for through travellers.”
As a whole, the proposed park will comprise of eight different kinds of accommodation.
The proposal says the development would have 18 10m x 12m powered caravan sites, 16 10m x 12m caravan sites with an ensuite, 50 10m x 10m powered caravan sites, six dual key two and one bedroom cabins, 16 room accommodation cabins, 10 two bedroom cabins, six three bedroom cabins and four one bedroom studio cabins.
The block for the proposed development currently has a house and shed on the land.
The documents also show plans for an existing house on the property to be renovated and turned into a cafe.
