A new child care centre could be built just minutes from the Bundaberg CBD if a development application is approved by council.
A material change of use application for a child care centre on Boundary St was recently lodged with Bundaberg Regional Council.
If approved the centre would be able to care for 90 children between zero and five years old.
The new facility would include five different classrooms, with adjoining sleep rooms for the areas proposed for children aged between zero and three years old.
It will also include a number of preparation areas and a waiting area at the front of the building.
The facility will also include an on-site car park as well as formalise some of the street parking areas.
The design of the building will be reflective of a modern Queenslander home with expansive verandas around the building, fitting in with the streetscape of the area.
The verandas would all be closed in for the safety of children on the premises.
“It also adds to the range of child care centres in the Bundaberg South area by providing a modern contemporary educational facility which sets it apart from other centres in this locality,” the proposal document says.
“It also will be a public centre as distinct from others that are attached as feeder institutions to larger educational establishments.
“Additionally, it will operate during the week rather than part week which is also another trait of some existing centres.”
As well as the proposed Boundary St facility, another child care facility is pending approval on Sienna Boulevard.
