Plans lodged with council for major redevelopment of Bundaberg YMCA

There’s plans for a community centre to undergo a major redevelopment which will allow the broadening of its services. See what’s proposed.

A Bundaberg services facility will undergo a major redevelopment if a pending application is approved by council.

The material change of use application was recently lodged on behalf of YMCA.

According to the proposal document, the application involves the redevelopment of the current YMCA site at Kepnock to allow the future development of a vocational learning facility targeting disengaged students with various learning needs.

Plans include a proposed vocational training room, general class rooms and a training.

It would also formalise the existing parking arrangements for a child care centre already located on the YMCA premises.

The child care centre at YMCA Bundaberg has been operating since 1995.

The redevelopment of the facility would allow it to cater for 95 students and 32 staff.

It would also include a large range of facilities including a vocational training room, four general class rooms, a hall and training kitchen.

There are also plans to include meeting rooms, an ITC room, multi-art room, recording room and ancillary recreational areas.

The organisation will be able to broaden their existing scope of uses and meet broader needs of the community.

“Through the applicant’s core community care business — YMCA provides a number of community offerings through NDIS, youth workshops and the like,” the application says.

“The aim of the proposal is to broaden their existing scope of uses and meet the broader needs of the community, in this instance through the provision of a vocational learning facility for at risk and disengaged youths.

“The proponent would provide the service in association with existing high schools in the Bundaberg region.”
