Kalkie residents could soon have a number of services closer to home if a development application is approved by council.
A material change of use application was recently lodged with Bundaberg Regional Council proposing a new neighbourhood centre be built in the Bundaberg suburb.
The site for the proposed development is the empty block of land on Bargara Rd, right next to Kalkie State School.
The application, which is pending council’s approval, says the development would include a service station, food and drink outlet and health care service.
The application says the development also had the potential to include a child care centre.
“The area is transitioning from agricultural to residential land uses consistent with the land use zoning under the Planning Scheme,” the application says.
“The site is L-shaped, has an area of 2.155 hectares and a 129m frontage to Bargara Rd.”
While there are no concept designs of what the structures would look like, block plans do show a rough indication of where the proposed service station and food outlet will go.
The application says the proposed development would “fulfil a community need improving the range of services available to local residents”.
