Public Service Watch: Energy and Water Supply portfolio
Details about confirmed and rumoured cuts from within Energy and Water Supply Minister Mark McArdle's portfolio.
Cuts already confirmed by government
Solar feed-in tariff:
Energy Minister Mark McArdle announced on June 26 the benefit earned by Queenslanders who install solar panels and then provide power back to the grid would be slashed from 44¢ per kilowatt hour, to 8¢. But anyone already in Queensland's Solar Bonus Scheme as of July 9 would continue to receive the 44¢ rate.
Solar Hot Water Rebate program, $10 million:
Energy Minister Mark McArdle announced the program would close on June 22, saving taxpayers up to $10 million.
Cloncurry Solar Farm, $5.6 million:
Energy Minister Mark McArdle announced on May 24 the government would withdraw its financial support for the Cloncurry Solar Farm, saying the project was at “a very early stage” and withdrawing would save about $5.6 million. The Newman government has flagged winding up climate change schemes, arguing they were a duplication of federal efforts.
