As you ascend the hill overlooking picturesque Narooma wharf, the windy surrounds give way to a reassuring sense of calm. Perched at the top is this formal dining room set in a traditional motel, complete with plush carpet, oak furniture and stained glass lamps - a stark contrast to the casual coastal air outside. Traditional hospitality, classic flavour matches and generous portions make this a favourite among hotel guests and locals alike. The entree tasting plate for two assembles myriad flavours from rustic rabbit terrine to duck pancakes and grilled prawns, each with its own sauce, but the many elements tended to overcrowd the palate. Pan-fried kingfish comes with a subtle tomato broth that could have done with more depth of flavour, while char-grilled eye fillet is traditionally paired with parmesan croquettes and roasted carrots. Desserts lift the bar somewhat, especially the delicious chocolate cylinder with an espresso and Bailey's parfait and coffee macarons.
