Australia faces an uphill battle to close the gender pay gap as stereotypes depicting men as the main breadwinner and women as the primary caregiver remain largely entrenched in the workplace, a survey has found.

The 2024 National Working Families Report shows that while employers are increasingly offering generous amounts of paid parental leave to mums and dads, entrenched gender stereotypes mean men often feel unable to take much of it.
