Warning: Centralised wage-fixing in Australia has returned

It’s a reversal of the Keating model, which reorientated the wage fixing system from institutionalised wage flow-on to enterprise autonomy and collaboration.

The return to centralised wage-fixing in Australia has begun. This represents a clear and present danger to productivity and therefore future living standards.

It is widely recognised that the golden decade of productivity growth – the 1990s – was enabled by the Hawke-Keating economic reforms, including the Keating government’s reorientation of the Australian wage fixing system from institutionalised wage flow-on to enterprise autonomy and workplace collaboration.
