Unions want ‘same-looking job, same pay’: BHP

BHP says its in-house labour hire firms are exempt from Labor’s same job, same pay laws because they’re contracted for their supervision and management services rather than just their supply of workers.

The coal miner argued in its opening statement to a landmark test case of the federal government laws on Wednesday that it was carved out from paying up to $49,000 a year extra to its labour hire workers based on a broad interpretation of the legislation’s exemption for service contractors.
