Forget flowers – how about a bouquet of mushrooms?

The textures, colours and shapes of fungi are being used for mycelium arrangements – that can be dished up for dinner later.

Hurtling towards another Mother’s Day, that famous line from the film Withnail and I keeps coming to mind: “Flowers are essentially tarts,” spouts Uncle Monty, played by Richard Griffiths, in the 1987 classic. “I think the carrot infinitely more fascinating than the geranium.”

I wonder what Monty would think of a bouquet of mushrooms?
