The maritime union is investigating its own staff and officials after uncovering a listening device at its headquarters in Queensland.

Maritime Union of Australia state secretary Stephen Cumberlidge on Tuesday told his branch an independent security contractor found the device in the boardroom while doing a sweep of the union offices.
