Queensland expands CFMEU inquiry to probe underworld

The Queensland government will expand its CFMEU inquiry to probe cross-border underworld elements in response to reports that Melbourne gangland associates have moved into the Brisbane construction industry.

Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie on Thursday announced that the terms of reference for its royal commission into the CFMEU, due to start next month, would cover not just industrial relations but the underworld so as to compel gangland figures associated with the union to give evidence.
