The Productivity Commission has found longer unpaid leave for carers will not make a material difference in the caring of older people, dealing a blow to prospects the entitlement could be extended.
In a paper released on Monday the commission found that under its model of three to 12 months of leave, just 7000 to 17,000 employees – or about 0.1 per cent of the workforce – would use the extended entitlement to care for an older person.
