Overtime rules for pub staff after 16 hours 'unworkable'

Salaried bar, cafe and restaurant workers will be entitled to extra pay if they work more than 16 hours of nights and weekends a week under proposed new rules coming into effect next month.

The Fair Work Commission has proposed new "outer limits" for the hours of salaried workers under restaurant and hospitality awards that require employers to pay staff extra when they work more than 16 hours of penalty-rate-covered hours a week or just 10 hours overtime.
