The wharfies’ union is gearing up for a major industrial dispute at the Port of Melbourne in a bid to tear up an enterprise agreement that it views as an existential threat to its power on the waterfront.

Maritime Union of Australia members on Tuesday overwhelmingly voted for industrial action options, including 24-hour strikes, at the fully automated Webb Dock terminal controlled by Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT).
