The hottest new C-suite position is head of AI

As artificial intelligence is embedded into organisations around the globe, companies are scrambling to hire the best and brightest to manage and govern its use.

As the applications for artificial intelligence explode, Australian companies are jostling to fill this year’s hottest new C-suite position – the CAIO (chief artificial intelligence officer), or head of AI.

While many US companies were quick to hire heads of AI from the end of 2023 – just before the White House issued an executive order for all US federal agencies to appoint a chief AI officer within 60 days – Australian companies are scrambling to catch up, either demanding chief information officers (CIOs) lift their AI credentials, or hiring a chief AI officer who understands the language of bots, as well as humans.
