As the applications for artificial intelligence explode, Australian companies are jostling to fill this year’s hottest new C-suite position – the CAIO (chief artificial intelligence officer), or head of AI.
While many US companies were quick to hire heads of AI from the end of 2023 – just before the White House issued an executive order for all US federal agencies to appoint a chief AI officer within 60 days – Australian companies are scrambling to catch up, either demanding chief information officers (CIOs) lift their AI credentials, or hiring a chief AI officer who understands the language of bots, as well as humans.
