Canva made all staff down tools to spend a week learning AI

Canva is doing it. Afterpay parent company Block is doing it too. As organisations grapple with getting their staff comfortable using new AI tools, intensive “drop everything else non-critical” focus weeks have become the latest rage.

Proponents say asking staff to down tools and learn the new AI systems in one short week rather than across multiple workshop hours is a way to cram a tonne of upskilling into a limited period and quantum leap in AI competency across the whole business all at once.
