HWL Ebsworth managing partner Juan Martinez arrived in Australia on a sponsored ticket in 1962, when his parents fled Spain’s Franco regime and escaped poverty for a better, safer life.

It makes him, he believes, one of the few non-Australian-born managing partners of a major law firm, and it has also shaped the approach his fast-growing firm takes in choosing graduates.
