Increasing burdens on managers and workers to keep up with continuing education is fuelling demand for micro-credentials, or short courses which offer a way for professionals to gain knowledge quickly without investing in more costly and time-consuming postgraduate education.

Micro-credentials are skills-orientated short courses that allow executives and other professionals to quickly gain skills relevant to their employment. They are becoming a more common way for universities to offer “bite-sized curriculum” as an alternative to more formal, costly and time-consuming, postgraduate educations. Credentials are skill-specific, and often completed online.
