Holding cash in an investment portfolio can provide a sense of security, but it can also come at the cost of underperformance and failure to achieve long-term financial goals.

Australian Tax Office figures show self-managed superannuation fund trustees had a massive $145.9 billion in cash and term deposit investments at December 31, 2023, representing 16.6 per cent of total net SMSF assets.
