A diagnosis of dementia can have a devastating impact on the person affected as well as friends and family, especially as complications arising from the illness – such as aggression, delusions or apathy – can make it so much harder to get formal care.

Families with loved ones diagnosed with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) will struggle to get a government-subsidised home care package to come anywhere near providing the level of help needed.
