How lost inheritances tear blended families apart
Lawyers warn parents are gifting assets that may have been sold by the time they die, creating bitter family rows.
Blended families are increasingly in dispute over assets that no longer exist because they have been sold to look after a surviving parent, with anything left over going to their natural children rather than step-siblings.
Longer lives and the sharp increase in blended families are contributing to a spike in legal rows between siblings over assets – typically family homes, but also often involving jewellery, shares, private companies and bank accounts.
