Thousands of Australians who’ve invested in exchange-traded funds (ETF) hold double-ups, which means they could be paying unnecessary fees for the same exposure, new analysis shows.

An ETF holds a basket of securities tracking an underlying index, such as the ASX200 or S&P500. The popularity of ETFs has exploded in the last few decades as investors have been drawn to the low-cost diversification the products offer.
