Whose interests would OpenAI’s blueprint serve?

Be wary of taking economic advice from a company that has everything to gain from accelerating Australia’s AI adoption, regardless of what it could end up costing us.

In Canberra, the ideas ball is in full swing. Last week, the belle of the ball was ChatGPT maker OpenAI.

With its “Economic Blueprint” in hand, a delegation from OpenAI put forwards a case for why “Australia needs to act more boldly and decisively to maximise AI’s possibilities”; because doing so could create the “backbone of future economic growth, create jobs, boost productivity, and usher in a new generation of entrepreneurship”.
