The founding chief executive of $3 billion Queensland tech start-up Go1 has revealed a surprise decision to step down and hand sole control of the company to his co-founder, as part of a plan to position it to go public when market conditions improve.

Andrew Barnes has led the education technology company as chief executive since he founded the business in 2015 with school friends Vu Tran, Chris Eigeland and Chris Hood.
